Why companies choose Uttarakhand

  • Six settings in one state

A tiger reserve, a river town, a lake town, a state capital, a hill station and a holy city, each with its own character and none more than a day's travel from the others.

  • Close to Delhi

The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, opened in April 2026, and a road to Ramnagar of about 250 km let teams from every office meet in the capital and travel together.

  • Resorts built for groups

Properties with 45 to 130 rooms, ballrooms, lawns and meeting rooms in Corbett, Rishikesh, Narendra Nagar, Nainital and Mussoorie.

  • Activities with a story

Safaris at Corbett, rafting on the Ganges, the Beatles Ashram at Rishikesh and Kainchi Dham near Nainital.

  • Wellness and focus

Yoga and meditation sessions in the town known as the yoga capital of the world, and forest or lakeside settings for leadership sessions.

  • Small and large groups both work

Twenty leaders at a forest rest house or 250 delegates at a resort buyout.

Uttarakhand for corporate groups

Uttarakhand has no single hub, which is its strength for a corporate programme. The Garhwal side has Rishikesh, on the Ganges where it leaves the mountains, with Narendra Nagar above it, Haridwar below it and Mussoorie near the capital, Dehradun.

The Kumaon side has Nainital, with its lake and the ashram at Kainchi Dham, and Jim Corbett National Park in the foothills beneath it. Each region suits a different group, and the one you pick decides the airport, the season and the venue.

Resort contracts, permits, coaches, rafting operators and local vendors are arranged for each programme, with a single point of contact, end to end.

Where to go in Uttarakhand

Six places, each with its own hotels and its own kind of programme.

Tigers, resorts and safari permits

Jim Corbett

Corbett National Park was set up in 1936 as Hailey National Park, India's oldest national park, and Project Tiger was launched here in 1973. Today the reserve covers about 1,288 sq km of sal forest, grassland and river valley on the Ramganga, in the foothills of the Kumaon Himalaya.

Most corporate groups stay in the resort belt around Ramnagar, the gateway town on the park's south-eastern edge, and enter the forest by jeep or canter. Corbett's conference resorts sit along the Kosi River near Ramnagar and Dhikuli, with rooms, lawns and a hall on one property.

The format that works is simple: work sessions between the morning and afternoon safari shifts, evenings at the resort, and one or two game drives. You book a zone, not the park. Each zone has its own gate, season and daily quota of vehicles, and permits are issued only through the Corbett Tiger Reserve's official portal.

ICE India took the Cloudsufi team from Noida to the Corbett foothills for a night of team building, with the travel, the stay and the programme in one plan.

Bijrani (Amdanda gate)
The closest zone to Ramnagar town and the usual choice for day safaris, with sal forest, grassland and a good record of tiger sightings.
Jhirna and Dhela (Dhela gate)
On the southern edge, about 15 to 20 km from Ramnagar. Jhirna allows 30 jeeps a shift; Dhela is smaller and jeep-only.
Dhikala (Dhangari gate)
The deepest zone, on the Ramganga, with a forest rest house built in 1890. It has no day permits: you enter by canter or on a night-stay booking, which makes it the choice for small leadership retreats.
Durgadevi, Garjia, Sonanadi and Pakhro
Quieter zones on the hill and river sides, good for birdwatching and for a second safari once Bijrani is done.
Group sizes
A permit covers one jeep of up to six people (two children under 12 count within the six). A canter carries up to 16. A group of 60 therefore needs ten jeeps in one shift, so large groups are split across shifts and zones.
Booking windows and ID
Day permits and night stays open about 45 days ahead for Indian nationals and 90 for foreign nationals. The group leader uploads a copy of their ID and enters every other member's ID number; originals are checked at the gate. Private vehicles are not allowed inside, only registered jeeps with a guide.

Rafting, yoga and the Beatles Ashram

Rishikesh

Rishikesh sits where the Ganges leaves the Himalayan valleys. It has called itself the yoga capital of the world since the International Yoga Festival began here in 1999, held in the first week of March each year, so hotel rates and availability tighten then.

The Beatles Ashram, also called Chaurasi Kutia, is the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's former ashram on the Ganges bank inside the Rajaji Tiger Reserve. The Beatles stayed there in February 1968 to study Transcendental Meditation, and wrote a large part of the White Album during the visit. The ashram opened to the public in December 2015, and its meditation domes and graffiti-covered huts now make a half-day visit for groups.

Rafting
Commercial rafting runs from late September, once the monsoon river is cleared, to 30 June, and is suspended from July. Operators run beginner stretches near Brahmpuri (grade I-II), Shivpuri (about 16 km, grade II-III) and the longer Marine Drive and Kaudiyala stretches (grade III-IV) from about October.
Yoga and meditation
Sessions by the river, in the hotel garden or at an ashram, from one hour to a full day, led by local instructors.
Ganga aarti and the bridges
An evening aarti at the ghats and a walk over the Ram Jhula and Laxman Jhula suspension bridges make a short evening programme for a team of any age.
Narendra Nagar
Ananda in the Himalayas is a retreat above Rishikesh on a palace estate, suited to leadership retreats of up to about 150, with yoga venues and a board room on site.

The lake and Kainchi Dham

Nainital

Nainital is a hill town at 1,938 m around an eye-shaped lake. It is a classic Kumaon retreat location: boating on the lake, short walks above the town and resorts with conference halls on its slopes. Ramnagar, the gateway to Corbett, is about 65 km away, so one itinerary can cover forest and lake in three or four nights.

Kainchi Dham, a Hanuman temple and ashram founded by Neem Karoli Baba in 1964, lies 17 km from Nainital on the Almora road. Steve Jobs travelled to India in 1974 hoping to meet the guru, only to find that he had died in September 1973. The temple's foundation-day fair on 15 June is its busiest day, so ICE India times group visits for early mornings and off-peak dates.

Lake and town
Boating, the lakeside promenade and the Naina Devi temple, for a relaxed evening or half-day.
Kainchi Dham
A short visit of one to two hours, with an orderly queue and quiet behaviour expected. Transport and parking are planned in advance, since the road is narrow.
Resorts
Nainital's hotels are mid-sized, with conference halls of up to about 125 seats, so large groups split across properties.

The state capital and the largest conference hotel

Dehradun

Dehradun is the gateway for the Garhwal side. It also has the largest conference hotel in Uttarakhand: Hyatt Regency Dehradun, on the Mussoorie road, with 263 rooms, a 7,254 sq ft Regency Ballroom and a 15,634 sq ft lawn.

That makes Dehradun the choice for a conference of several hundred that still wants the hills on the agenda. Hyatt Centric Rajpur Road adds a 6,142 sq ft ballroom in the city.

Mussoorie

Mussoorie is a hill station at about 2,000 m, with Landour next to it. It is the easiest hill venue from the airport and suits a group that wants a conference hotel with mountain views and a short transfer. Hotels here take groups of up to about 200 indoors, with terraces and gardens for larger evening events.

The Ganga aarti at Har Ki Pauri

Haridwar

Haridwar is about 25 km from Rishikesh, so it works as an evening out rather than a base. The Ganga aarti at Har Ki Pauri runs at sunrise and sunset, so the evening ceremony moves from about 5:30 pm in winter to about 7 pm in the monsoon. Groups arrive 45 minutes to an hour early, because the ghat fills on weekends and festival dates.

Season, closures and when to go

Most Corbett zones close for the monsoon, and that is the first fact in any date discussion. Rain falls from July to September.

Bijrani and Garjia open from 15 October to 30 June, while Dhikala, Durgadevi, Sonanadi and Pakhro open from 15 November to 15 June. Jhirna and Dhela stay open all year, but any shift can be cancelled for weather. Rishikesh rafting follows the same pattern, closing from July until the river is cleared in late September.

October to November
The best window for most of the state: Corbett reopens, rafting starts and the hills are clear. Dhikala opens on 15 November.
December to February
Cold, foggy dawns in an open jeep, and cold nights at Nainital and Mussoorie. Good for birdwatching and indoor-led programmes.
March to June
Hot in the foothills but cool in the hills. Corbett sightings are strongest as animals come to the water. Rishikesh is busy in the first week of March for the yoga festival and in the rafting peak from March to June.
July to mid-September
Monsoon. Rafting stops, and only Jhirna and Dhela run safaris at Corbett. ICE India builds an indoor plan for every date in this window and adds buffer time on hill roads.

Planning an event in Uttarakhand: questions

Which part of Uttarakhand suits which kind of group?

Corbett suits wildlife-led retreats and incentive groups, Rishikesh suits wellness- and adventure-led programmes, Nainital suits lakeside leadership retreats, and Mussoorie suits groups arriving through Dehradun that want a hill hotel with a short transfer. ICE India shortlists from the group size, season and agenda.

How should a two-night Corbett offsite be sequenced?

Keep the arrival day light. Forest gates keep fixed timings, with the morning shift in about 06:30 to 09:30 and the afternoon in about 15:00 to 18:00, so ICE India places sessions between the two shifts and front-loads the conference on day two.

Can we hold a gala dinner with alcohol at Corbett?

Not inside the reserve, where consuming alcohol is a punishable offence. Evening events are held at the resort lawns, with the licence arranged for the event date.

How many delegates can one resort take?

The largest in-house room counts are about 100 to 130, so a group of 150 to 250 is either split across two properties or placed on a buyout. Aahana takes up to 250 residential guests on a full-property buyout.

What does a corporate offsite in Uttarakhand cost?

It depends on the season, the resort, the activities and the transport from Delhi. For reference, ICE India's published bands put a small networking event at ₹2-5 lakh and a one-night conference for 200 people at ₹35-70 lakh, twin sharing and before GST. ICE India quotes each Uttarakhand programme after a short brief. See corporate MICE.
