Europe for corporate offsites and incentive trips from India

One Schengen visa covers the Schengen countries, so a group can see two or three in one trip. Compare Europe's destinations for Indian corporate groups, from Greek islands to Alpine lakes, with non-stop flights of about 6 to 10 hours to the main cities.

Flight time
About 6 to 10 hours non-stop to Istanbul, Athens, Paris, Amsterdam, Zurich and Rome; one stop to most other cities

ICE India in Europe
Planned by ICE India, with vetted local partners on the ground.

Why companies take groups to Europe

  • Several countries on one visa

A Schengen visa covers most of the region, so a programme can cross a border by coach or train without a second application.

  • Cities close together

Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris sit a few hours apart by road. A seven-day trip can cover three cities with one flight in and one out.

  • Venues with history

Palaces, castles, opera houses and wine estates take private dinners, which gives an awards night a setting no hotel ballroom matches.

  • Something for every season

Mediterranean islands in summer, Alpine snow in winter and city breaks in spring and autumn.

  • Indian food in every major city

Indian restaurants and caterers in the large cities handle vegetarian and Jain menus for groups.

  • A trip people talk about

For many employees a European incentive is a first visit to the continent, which makes it the reward that sells a sales contest.

Europe for corporate groups

Europe suits incentive trips and leadership offsites more than large conferences. Groups of 40 to 200 travel well here: hotels in the old centres take that size, coaches link the cities, and private venues make every evening different.

This page covers the destinations in Europe that have no guide of their own, with hotels, gala venues and Indian restaurants for each. Greece, Spain and Istanbul have full guides, linked under Full guides near the end of the page.

The contract is with ICE India in Mumbai, in rupees, and a vetted partner in each country delivers the ground side.

France

Paris

Paris gives Indian corporate groups the landmarks they expect, and it handles scale. Large conference hotels stand beside the Palais des Congrès, the metro reaches every sight, and a working day can end at the Eiffel Tower or on the Seine.

What sets it apart from the other cities in this hub is depth: palaces, museums and private pavilions that can be hired for a single evening. ICE India ran the Edelweiss Financial Services incentive here, 75 employees on a seven-day trip through Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris by coach.

Groups usually base near the Opéra or the Eiffel Tower and use coaches for Versailles and evening transfers. The Hyatt Regency Paris Étoile forms part of the Palais des Congrès, which suits conferences that need a very large hall.

Places to visit
The Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Notre-Dame and Sainte-Chapelle, Sacré-Cœur and Montmartre, Versailles, a Moulin Rouge show, walks through the Latin Quarter and the Marais, and the Champs-Élysées.
Team activities
A scavenger hunt through Montmartre with local artists, a Seine dinner cruise and a Louvre highlights tour, all part of the Edelweiss programme, plus a Versailles garden day.
Gala dinner venues
Pavillon Cambon Capucines, Pavillon Dauphine, the Palais Garnier, the Musée des Arts Forains and the Salon Opéra at the InterContinental Paris Le Grand. Pavillon Cambon Capucines seats about 500 at dinner.
Indian restaurants for groups
Saravanaa Bhavan, Pooja and Krishna Bhavan, all vegetarian, near Gare du Nord and Passage Brady.
Local food to try
Croissants, crêpes, French cheeses and pastries. Vegetarian groups do well at the Indian restaurants of Passage Brady, a short walk from Gare du Nord.
What to bring home and where to shop
Macarons from Ladurée or Pierre Hermé, chocolate, perfume and silk scarves. Shop at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann, Printemps, the Champs-Élysées and the Saint-Ouen flea market.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is an easy first European stop for a group. The centre is flat and walkable, English is spoken everywhere, and Schiphol is less than half an hour by train from the canal ring.

It differs from its neighbours because the city itself is the activity: canal cruises, cycling and gallery visits need few coaches. Convention hotels around Dam Square, Leidseplein and the south hold ballrooms for 350 to over 1,000 theatre-style. Amsterdam was the first stop of the Edelweiss incentive for 75 employees that ICE India ran by coach through Brussels to Paris.

Groups stay near Leidseplein or Dam Square, which puts the canal ring, the museum quarter and the cycling routes within a short walk or tram ride. Keukenhof, about 40 km away, and Zaanse Schans are easy day trips.

Places to visit
The Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk, a canal cruise, Vondelpark and the Jordaan. Beyond the city: the Keukenhof tulip gardens in spring, the windmills of Zaanse Schans, and The Hague with Madurodam.
Team activities
A cycling tour with a team challenge through Vondelpark and the Jordaan, a canal-boat quiz, and a Dutch cheese and stroopwafel tasting. The Edelweiss group also had an expert-led Van Gogh Museum visit.
Gala dinner venues
Beurs van Berlage, the Grand Ballroom at Hotel Okura, the Grand Ballroom at the Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky and a private canal-boat dinner. The Grote Zaal at Beurs van Berlage seats about 1,100 at dinner.
Indian restaurants for groups
Golden Thali, Ashoka, Mount Everest Tandoori and Tulsi, all with vegetarian dishes.
Local food to try
Stroopwafels, poffertjes, bitterballen, Gouda and fresh herring. Vegetarian groups will like poffertjes and the cheese.
What to bring home and where to shop
Delft Blue, Gouda, stroopwafels and tulip-themed gifts. Shop on Kalverstraat, in the Nine Streets and at the Albert Cuyp Market, with De Bijenkorf for department-store gifts.

Switzerland

Switzerland

Switzerland suits Indian corporate groups that want mountains, lakes and orderly logistics in one trip. Distances are short and trains and coaches keep to the timetable, so a group can see Lucerne, a glacier peak and a lake town within a few days without long transfers.

It stands apart from its neighbours for scenery that arrives by cable car and cogwheel train rather than long walks. Vegetarian and Jain food is easy to arrange, because several Indian restaurants, including one at Jungfraujoch, are used to large Indian tour groups.

Most groups pair two bases: Lucerne for the lake and Titlis, and Interlaken for Jungfraujoch, arriving and departing through Zurich or Geneva. Resort venues such as the Bürgenstock combine a plenary room for 600 with lake views, while Zurich and Geneva hotels suit conferences that need easy city access.

Places to visit
Lucerne's Chapel Bridge and a lake cruise, Mount Titlis above Engelberg with its Cliff Walk, the Jungfraujoch railway from Interlaken and Grindelwald, a scenic stretch of the Glacier Express, Geneva's lakefront and Jet d'Eau, and Zurich's old town. Interlaken is the base for Grindelwald and the Jungfrau region.
Team activities
A team hunt through Lucerne's old town, cheese-making at an alpine dairy, a fondue evening in a mountain chalet and a steamer dinner on Lake Lucerne.
Gala dinner venues
The Bürgenstock resort above Lake Lucerne, the Gallery at The Dolder Grand in Zurich, the Lucerne Hall at KKL Luzern, which seats 200 to 600 at dinner, and the historic halls of the Kursaal in Interlaken.
Indian restaurants for groups
Restaurant Bollywood at Jungfraujoch, which offers vegetarian and Jain dishes, India Village and Taj Mahal in Interlaken, and Taj Palace in Lucerne.
Local food to try
Cheese fondue, raclette and rösti are all vegetarian, and Swiss chocolate rounds off most dinners.
What to bring home and where to shop
Swiss chocolate, watches, cheese and Swiss Army knives. Browse Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse, Lucerne's old town and the Höheweg in Interlaken.

Italy

Italy offers the best-known sights in Europe and hotels that can hold a large meeting around them. Rome Cavalieri has a ballroom for about 2,000 in theatre layout. The Hilton hotels at Molino Stucky in Venice and on the Sorrento peninsula each take 900 to 1,500. A group can base itself in one city or move between two or three.

What sets Italy apart from its neighbours is range. One programme can hold a private evening in Rome, a craft workshop in Florence, a canal dinner in Venice, a boat day on the Amalfi coast and a cooking class in a Tuscan vineyard. April to June and September to October are the best months. July and August are hot and crowded.

Rome
The Colosseum, Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and Vatican Museums fill two days. Scavenger hunts across the piazzas suit team groups.
Florence, Pisa and Tuscany
Santa Maria del Fiore, the Uffizi, Palazzo Pitti and the Ponte Vecchio, with Pisa's Leaning Tower about an hour away. In Tuscany, a pizza, pasta and cheese workshop in a vineyard cottage works well as a team activity.
Venice and the Amalfi Coast
Take a Grand Canal cruise past the Rialto Bridge, with a boat trip to Murano. On the Amalfi coast, a boat cruise links Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi, and Capri is a day trip by ferry.
Gala dinner venues
Villa Miani in Rome (up to 550), the Salone dei Cavalieri at Rome Cavalieri, Scuola Grande della Misericordia in Venice, Palazzo Corsini in Florence (about 200) and the Venetian Ballroom at Hilton Molino Stucky.
Indian restaurants for groups

Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Split and Plitvice Lakes

Croatia

Croatia gives a group a Central European capital and a Mediterranean coast in one trip. Zagreb has the large hotels and ballrooms. Dubrovnik and Split have walled old towns on the sea, and Plitvice Lakes are about two hours from Zagreb by road.

What sets it apart from Italy and Greece is scale. The old towns are small and walkable, hotels sit on the water, and a group of 100 can take over a fortress, a palace courtyard or a harbour terrace for an evening. Coastal summers are busy, so May, June, September and October suit large groups best. Zagreb works all year and becomes an Advent market city in December.

Zagreb
Walk the Upper Town and the Art Nouveau Lower Town, then eat at Dolac market. Team activities include Segway tours, craft beer tours, culinary walks and treasure hunts across the squares.
Dubrovnik
Walk the city walls, the Stradun and Pile Gate, with the cable car above town for the view. The old town is a Game of Thrones location, which gives a ready theme for a team day.
Split and Plitvice Lakes
Split's Diocletian's Palace is a UNESCO site with a lively Riva promenade beside it. Plitvice Lakes National Park has 16 terraced lakes and boardwalk trails, and fills a full-day team outing from Zagreb.
Gala dinner venues
Fort Lovrijenac and Revelin Fortress in Dubrovnik, Klis Fortress above Split, and the ballrooms at Hotel Dubrovnik Palace and Le Méridien Lav.
Indian restaurants for groups
Royal India, Taste of India and Namaste India in Zagreb, Incredible India in Dubrovnik and Rooh in Split, all with vegetarian dishes.
Food, souvenirs and shopping
Try black risotto, Dalmatian peka, Pag cheese and Zagreb štrukli. Bring home lavender from Hvar, olive oil, Croatian wine, Pag lace and a Croatian cravat. Shop at Dolac market and on Ilica in Zagreb, the Stradun in Dubrovnik and the Green Market beside Diocletian's Palace in Split.

Austria

Vienna

Vienna gives Indian corporate groups imperial palaces, classical music and coffee-house culture in a compact city where most sights are a short tram or coach ride apart.

Against Paris or Amsterdam it is quieter and more formal, which suits leadership retreats, dealer conferences and gala evenings in palace halls. The hotels listed here hold plenary sessions of 680 to 800 people theatre-style, and the Austria Center Vienna, the city's convention centre, takes larger meetings.

A typical programme runs three or four days: a palace and Ringstrasse day, an evening of classical music, and a day at the Belvedere and the Naschmarkt. Winter groups add the Christmas markets from late November.

Places to visit
Schönbrunn Palace and its gardens, the Hofburg, the Belvedere, St Stephen's Cathedral, the Vienna State Opera, a tram ride around the Ringstrasse and the Prater with its Riesenrad giant wheel. Most of these sit on or near the Ringstrasse, so a group covers three or four in a morning.
Team activities
A waltz lesson, a private chamber concert, a coffee-house tasting walk through the Naschmarkt and an evening at a Heuriger wine tavern in Grinzing, with live music.
Gala dinner venues
The Orangerie at Schönbrunn, which seats about 400 at dinner, the Marble Hall and the Glass Pavilion at the Belvedere, and the Garden Palace of Palais Liechtenstein, which has hosted galas for 400 guests.
Indian restaurants for groups
Indien Village, Nirvana, Bombay and Jaipur Palace.
Local food to try
Wiener schnitzel, Tafelspitz, apple strudel and Sachertorte. Käsespätzle, cheese noodles, suits vegetarians, and Heuriger taverns serve wine from Vienna's own vineyards. Coffee comes with water and cake in a traditional Kaffeehaus.
What to bring home and where to shop
Sachertorte, Mozartkugeln, Demel sweets from Kohlmarkt and Austrian crystal. Shop on Kärntner Strasse, the Graben and Mariahilfer Strasse, and taste your way through the Naschmarkt.

Prague, Czech Republic

Prague and the Czech Republic

Prague came through the Second World War with its medieval centre largely intact, and most of it can be covered on foot. The castle, Charles Bridge and Old Town Square sit close together, which keeps group movement simple. Hotels and congress halls are large enough for big delegations, and the city is busy in every season.

Against Budapest and Vienna, Prague has the most compact old core and the strongest beer tradition. Many groups link the three cities: Prague to Vienna is about 330 km and Vienna to Budapest about 240 km, each a half-day by coach. May to September brings temperatures in the 20s °C, with long, pleasant evenings.

Castle, bridge and square
Start at Prague Castle and St Vitus Cathedral, then walk the Royal Route in reverse, downhill, across Charles Bridge to Old Town Square and the Astronomical Clock. Finish on Petřín Hill, by funicular, for the lookout tower and mirror maze.
Pilsen and beer
The Pilsner Urquell Brewery is about 90 km and an hour from Prague. Its tour lasts about 100 minutes and ends with a tasting, and groups of more than 20 can book a group tour. Back in Prague, the Letná Park beer garden looks over the city.
Gala dinner venues
Municipal House and its Smetana Hall, Žofín Palace, the Spanish Hall at Prague Castle, and the Congress Hall at Hilton Prague. Lobkowicz Palace suits a board dinner of up to about 250.
Team activities
Walking and Segway tours, a treasure hunt through the lanes of the Old Town and Malá Strana, and a river cruise on the Vltava suit team groups. A second day can be left free for shopping or a beer-hall dinner.
Indian restaurants for groups
Indian Jewel, Lal Qila, Indian Amaze and Five Rivers Indian Kitchen and Bar.
Local food, souvenirs and shopping
Try svíčková with dumplings, goulash, fried cheese and fresh Pilsner, with Becherovka to finish. Bring home Bohemian crystal, certified garnet jewellery, wooden toys and marionettes. Shop on Wenceslas Square, Pařížská Street and at the Palladium mall, and at Havelská Market for crafts.

Budapest, Hungary

Budapest and Hungary

The Danube divides Budapest into hilly Buda and flat Pest, and most of what a group wants lies within a few kilometres of the river: Castle Hill, the Parliament, the Chain Bridge, the baths and the Great Market Hall. Meeting space is concentrated in a handful of large hotels in Pest and on Castle Hill.

Against Prague and Vienna, Budapest is the spa city. Thermal baths are part of everyday life, so a bath visit makes an easy team evening. It pairs with Vienna, about 240 km and three hours by road, or with Prague in a three-city loop. May to September brings temperatures in the 20s °C.

Castle Hill and the centre
Matthias Church, Fisherman's Bastion and Buda Castle, then the Chain Bridge, the Parliament, Heroes' Square, Vajdahunyad Castle, St Stephen's Basilica and the Great Synagogue. A sunset Danube cruise passes the Parliament.
Danube Bend and thermal baths
Visegrád castle, Szentendre and the Basilica of Esztergom make a full-day coach trip. Széchenyi Bath in City Park has indoor and outdoor pools and suits a relaxed team afternoon.
Team activities
A guided walking tour of Buda and Pest, a cooking class built around goulash and paprika, and a Danube boat dinner suit team groups. The bridges between Buda and Pest make a natural route for a photo-led team challenge.
Gala dinner venues
Anantara New York Palace (gala dinners up to 500), Gundel in City Park (garden up to 1,000), and the Event Hall at Várkert Bazár (500 to 800).
Indian restaurants for groups
Indian Palate, Indigo, Salaam Bombay and Taj Mahal, with the vegetarian Govinda.
Food, souvenirs and shopping

Sofia, Rila and the mountains

Bulgaria

Sofia is a compact capital where Orthodox churches stand beside Communist-era architecture, with Vitosha mountain above the city. The National Palace of Culture alone has more than a dozen halls seating 100 to 3,700, so a conference of almost any size can be placed in the centre, with hotels a short drive away.

What sets Bulgaria apart from Prague and Budapest is the mountains and monasteries within two hours of the capital. Rila Monastery, a UNESCO site, is about 120 km away, and river rafting at Kresna Gorge is a similar distance. July and August have the longest days, and May to September is comfortable for outdoor programmes.

Sofia on foot
Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, St Sofia Church, the Palace of Justice, Banya Bashi Mosque and the National Archaeological Museum are all within a short walk. A guided walking tour covers the centre in two hours.
Rila Monastery and Plovdiv
Rila Monastery is a two-hour drive from Sofia. Plovdiv, with its Roman theatre and old town, is about 130 km by motorway. In early June the Rose Valley near Kazanlak holds a rose festival.
Team activity
Rafting on the Struma river at Kresna Gorge runs from March to October. Runs of 8 to 13 km take about three hours, boats carry six to eight people with an instructor, and operators take groups of up to 50.
Gala dinner venues
The National Palace of Culture (its City Stage takes up to 900), the Royal Ballroom at Sofia Hotel Balkan, and the Sofia Grand Hall at Hotel Marinela Sofia for up to 700.
Indian restaurants for groups
Saffron, Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant, Gurkha, and Satsanga for vegetarian and vegan Indian food.
Food, souvenirs and shopping

Planning an event in Europe: questions

How early should a group apply for Schengen visas?

About two months before travel. Each traveller attends the visa centre for fingerprints, so ICE India books the appointments city by city and prepares one document set for the whole group.

Can one trip cover two or three countries?

Yes. Most of the region shares one visa, and coaches or fast trains link nearby cities. A common pattern is two cities by coach with a day stop in between, as on the Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris trip ICE India ran.

Which destination suits a large group?

Groups of 40 to 200 fit almost anywhere on this page. For more than 200, pick a city with large conference hotels, such as Prague, Vienna or Budapest, rather than an island or an Alpine village.

We are a travel agency looking for a ground partner in Europe. Can you help?

ICE India works with travel agencies and with destination partners who want to reach Indian buyers. See Destination Representation for how that works.
