The brief
Gold's Gym holds an annual strategy meet where franchise partners from across India gather to align on business objectives, celebrate achievements and strengthen their network. For the 2018 meet the brand wanted a multi-day experience in Kochi that balanced strategy sessions with cultural immersion and team bonding.
The challenge went beyond logistics. The partners ran different markets at different scales, so the event had to build equal enthusiasm in every attendee. A standard conference format would not create the camaraderie and motivation Gold's Gym wanted. The event had to carry the brand's energy, celebrate top performers meaningfully and use Kerala's cultural assets to make the meet memorable.

Day one, cultural welcome and heritage dinner

Franchise partners arrived to find the offsite was nothing like a standard corporate gathering. The welcome dinner took place at the Ginger House Museum, a 200-year-old Dutch heritage building in Kochi that now houses a private collection of artefacts, furniture and art.
An intimate setting away from the usual banquet hall created an immediate connection among attendees. Guests explored the museum between courses, and conversations formed around the objects, which softened the awkwardness of a first-evening networking dinner. The museum also gave an introduction to Kochi's trading history and cosmopolitan character.
Day two, the snake boat race

The signature moment was a traditional snake boat (chundan vallam) racing experience on the backwaters. Partners were split into teams, each assigned an authentic boat with traditional oarsmen who taught rowing technique. Participants wore the Kerala mundu, learned the rhythm of synchronised paddling and raced.
It was a participation event, not a spectator one. Successful franchise owners became enthusiastic rowers, laughing at early attempts, and local oarsmen shared the cultural background of the sport. The competitive element suited fitness entrepreneurs, and partners who compete in business became teammates in a boat, which changed the dynamic between them.
Day three, the neon awards gala

The final evening shifted from cultural immersion to brand celebration. The venue was transformed with neon lighting, UV-reactive decor and Gold's Gym branding throughout, a deliberate contrast with the earthy tones of the previous days. Recognition categories honoured business achievements and participation in the cultural activities.
A well-known stand-up comedian provided entertainment, and award presentations were interspersed with video montages from the previous days, so experiences from only hours before were already a shared memory.
Strategy sessions in the middle
Between the experiences, focused strategy sessions ran in professionally equipped conference spaces. Alternating high-energy activity with serious discussion gave the programme a productive rhythm. Partners reported that the memorable experiences made them more receptive in the sessions, which was the effect the programme was designed to produce.
Logistics across locations
Activities spread across museums, backwaters, conference hotels and the gala venue. A team of eight ICE India professionals coordinated transport for 80+ participants between venues, handled dietary needs, which mattered for a fitness-conscious group, arranged the permits for the boat racing and kept all vendors in communication.
Every partner received a detailed itinerary through a custom event app. Weather contingencies and real-time adjustments were handled behind the scenes.
What made it work
- The destination as the event
- Each activity was rooted in Kerala's culture, not generic team building imported from elsewhere.
- A managed energy curve
- Intimate on day one, active on day two, celebratory on day three, so nobody ran out of energy.
- A shared, difficult challenge
- Rowing together was hard enough to need teamwork and light enough to keep spirits high.
ICE India plans an awards gala into a franchisee meet, runs multi-city events for networks spread across India, and sets out the format in its channel partner event guide.

Questions this event answers
What makes Kerala a good setting for a corporate annual meet?
Kochi has an international airport, conference-grade hotels and heritage sites, plus experiences you cannot get elsewhere, such as backwater boat racing. The cooler months from September to March suit outdoor activities.
How long should an annual franchisee event be?
Two to three days is usually enough for strategy sessions, a team activity, an awards evening and informal networking. Gold's Gym ran three, alternating activities and sessions.
What activities work for franchisee engagement?
Destination-specific team challenges, recognition programmes and informal dinners alongside the business sessions. The snake boat race gave partners a challenge unrelated to membership numbers.
Does ICE India organise events outside Kerala?
Yes. ICE India runs offsites and annual meets across India and abroad. See corporate MICE and event management.
