Why companies choose Gujarat

  • Four business cities

Ahmedabad for hotels, Gandhinagar for the convention centre and GIFT City, Surat for trade and Vadodara for heritage.

  • Room for thousands

Mahatma Mandir seats 5,500 in its main hall, theatre style, and has three pillar-less exhibition halls.

  • Four UNESCO sites

Historic Ahmedabad, Champaner-Pavagadh, Rani ki Vav and Dholavira are all in the state.

  • Offsites with a clear identity

The white desert of Kutch, the tallest statue in the world at Kevadia and the lions of Gir.

  • Short flights from the two big metros

Non-stop services from Mumbai and Delhi land at Ahmedabad, so a group arrives together.

  • One plan for every stop

Venues, transfers, permits and the event day sit in one plan run by one team.

Gujarat for corporate groups

ICE India is an event management company for Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and the rest of Gujarat, running conferences, dealer meets and incentive trips. We are headquartered in Mumbai, and each Gujarat event is run by the nearest team with suppliers we have vetted, with a single point of contact, end to end.

Ahmedabad is the commercial city and the arrival point for almost every group. Its hotels take conferences and dealer meets of several hundred delegates, and it was India's first UNESCO World Heritage City, so a heritage evening follows a day of meetings easily.

Gandhinagar, the state capital, has Mahatma Mandir and GIFT City, India's international financial services centre on the Sabarmati, which gives a banking, insurance or fintech group a reason to meet there. Surat suits diamond and textile trade events, and Vadodara pairs a palace dinner with day trips to Champaner-Pavagadh and the Statue of Unity. Read how we run conferences and MICE programmes.

Combining cities and offsites

Gujarat is large, so the usual rule is one road leg of a few hours a day. The offsites sit far from each other, and most programmes pick one.

Gandhinagar and Kevadia
A conference at Mahatma Mandir, then a night at the Statue of Unity. Groups travel by coach and the first evening stays light.
Ahmedabad and Champaner-Pavagadh
A business day in Ahmedabad, then a heritage day out through Vadodara.
Kutch on its own
Groups fly into Bhuj for two or three nights at the White Rann. Kutch does not combine well with a city conference.
The Saurashtra circuit
Gir, Somnath, Diu and Dwarka by coach, with one night at each stop. It needs four or five days. Diu is a separate union territory, covered below.

Where to go: Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Kutch and beyond

Business cities first, then offsite and heritage places, then Diu and Daman. Each has its own season and group size.

Gujarat's business city

Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad is where most Gujarat programmes begin. Its hotel ballrooms host conferences and dealer meets of 300 to 600 delegates, and the Sabarmati Riverfront gives a team an evening walk without a coach.

The old city is a UNESCO World Heritage site, the first Indian city to be listed. A walk through its pols, the Sidi Saiyyed mosque with its carved stone lattice windows and the Teen Darwaza gate suits a group the evening before or after a conference.

Sabarmati Ashram, Mahatma Gandhi's base, is a quieter stop for a leadership team. A conference of 600 and a heritage dinner can share one day.

Ashram Road
Hyatt Regency Ahmedabad, on the riverfront, has 269 rooms, six event venues and a pillar-less ballroom of 6,045 sq ft.
Vastrapur
Hyatt Ahmedabad has a Grand Ballroom of 5,974 sq ft for about 600 guests, in the west of the city.
Old city walk
A guided evening walk, ending with a dinner we arrange for your dates.
Kite Festival
The International Kite Festival falls in January, and groups that arrive then can add kite flying to the plan.

The state capital

Gandhinagar and GIFT City

Gandhinagar is the best base in the state for a large conference. Mahatma Mandir covers 34 acres, and its hotel, The Leela Gandhinagar, stands next door, so delegates sleep, meet and eat on one site.

GIFT City, on the Sabarmati in Gandhinagar district, is India's international financial services centre. It is also the one part of Gujarat where licensed hotels and restaurants serve alcohol under the relaxed rules.

Akshardham, a large temple complex, and Dandi Kutir, the Gandhi museum inside the Mahatma Mandir complex, fill a spare afternoon.

The Leela Gandhinagar has 318 rooms and a Grand Ballroom of 8,545 sq ft that seats 625 theatre style. Large groups sleep in the hotel and meet in the centre, so no coach moves between them.

Main hall
96 m by 58 m, divisible into three, with 5,500 seats theatre style including the viewing galleries.
Exhibition halls
Three pillar-less, air-conditioned halls for launches and trade shows.

Diamond and textile trade

Surat

Surat is Gujarat's second-largest city and is known as the Diamond City of India, for its diamond and textile trades. It suits trade-led events: dealer and channel partner meets, supplier conferences and exhibitions.

The Surat International Exhibition and Convention Centre at Sarsana has more than 10,000 sq m of exhibition and meeting space and 14 conference rooms for 10 to 250 people. Hotels around it include Le Méridien, Park Inn by Radisson, Hotel Hinduja Empire and Ramee International.

The Surat Diamond Bourse, inaugurated in December 2023, is a stop for a diamond-trade group.

Best for
Trade and channel events of 100 to 250 delegates in the conference rooms, and larger exhibitions in the halls.
Pairing
Surat is the usual gateway to Saputara, and a short flight from Mumbai.

The palace city

Vadodara

Vadodara is the city of the Gaekwad rulers and Laxmi Vilas Palace is its heritage venue. Select spaces at the palace are open for private events through the Gaekwad family, and suit dinners of 150 to 400 guests. The palace is not a hotel, so guests stay in the city's five-star hotels.

For conferences, Hyatt Place Vadodara has over 10,600 sq ft of event space and a pillarless ballroom for up to 750 guests.

Vadodara is also the nearest city to Champaner-Pavagadh and the gateway to the Statue of Unity, so it works as a base for a business day and a heritage day.

The full Statue of Unity on its base across the Narmada, under a blue sky

The tallest statue in the world

Statue of Unity and Kevadia

The Statue of Unity stands 182 metres tall near Kevadia, now called Ekta Nagar. A group can see it as a day trip from Gandhinagar, but an overnight works better: the visit, a team dinner and a night in tents on the Narmada.

Tent City 1 sits at Dyke 4, beside the Sardar Sarovar Dam. It keeps a group of mixed seniority in one place, which suits a sales incentive or a leadership offsite where everyone should eat together.

ICE India plans the visit around the group: the statue in the morning, a working session after lunch and a team dinner in the evening.

Best for
Sales incentives, channel partner groups and leadership offsites of one or two nights.
Plan for
The statue is a viewing and a walk, so we add a working session or an evening programme.
Tent City
Tent City 1 is about 5.4 km from the statue's main parking area, so a coach shuttle is part of the plan.

The Great Rann of Kutch seen from the hills, with the salt flat stretching to the horizon

The offsite for open space

Kutch and the White Rann

Kutch is Gujarat's offsite for big, quiet landscapes. The White Rann is a white salt desert, and Tent City at Dhordo hosts the Rann Utsav, a cultural festival. The 2026-27 season runs from 1 November 2026 to 7 March 2027.

The White Rann needs an entry permit, which ICE India arranges before the group travels. Sunset on the salt is the programme, with a folk performance and dinner in the camp.

Dholavira, a Harappan-era city and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2021, is a long day trip for groups that want history. We plan it as a separate day.

Season
Kutch works from November to February, the cool part of the year.
Group fit
Tent City suits teams that want to stay together for two or three nights.
Permit
Every visitor to the White Rann needs an online entry permit from the Gujarat government.
Viewing point
The White Rann viewing point is a few kilometres from the tents, so the walk to the salt is short.
An Asiatic lion walking through grass at Gir National Park

Lions and a clean break

Gir

Gir is the last wild home of the Asiatic lion outside Africa. A safari day suits a sales incentive or a leadership retreat that wants a clear break from the city.

The national park closes every year from 16 June to 15 October, so Gir is a winter and spring programme. Outside those dates, safaris run in the morning and the afternoon, and ICE India arranges the bookings through local suppliers.

Resorts around Sasan are smaller than city hotels, so Gir suits small and mid-sized groups. Evenings stay at the resort, with a dinner and a local performance arranged through the lodge.

Format
One or two nights, with a safari in the morning and an evening around a fire.
Pairing
Gir sits well before Somnath and Dwarka on the Saurashtra circuit.
Safari rules
We brief the group on safari timings and park rules, and plan a second activity for the afternoon.

Saputara lake with pedal boats, a wooded shore and hills beyond

Gujarat's hill station

Saputara

Saputara is Gujarat's hill station, on a plateau in the Sahyadri hills in Dang district. The Maharashtra border is 4 km away. A man-made lake about 1 km from town has boating clubs, and a ropeway runs up to Sunrise Point in about ten minutes.

The hills are green and misty in the monsoon, from July to September. Saputara suits a small leadership retreat or a team that wants cool air and a quiet weekend.

Best for
Retreats and small offsites of one or two nights.
Activities
Boating on the lake, the ropeway and walks to the viewpoints.

Heritage towns

Champaner-Pavagadh and Somnath

Champaner-Pavagadh, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2004, is a hill fortress and the remains of a 16th-century capital of Gujarat. It is the only complete and unchanged Islamic pre-Mughal city. Its Jami Masjid is the stop most groups remember, and it works as a day out from Ahmedabad or Vadodara.

Somnath is a Jyotirlinga temple on the Arabian Sea, and a natural stop on the Saurashtra circuit. Temples ask for modest dress and keep fixed visiting hours, so we brief the group before travel.

For how to plan a heritage programme, read our guide to heritage and spiritual India for corporate events. A morning visit, a lunch and a rest in the afternoon keeps a heritage day light.

Champaner-Pavagadh
A day trip taking in the fortress hill and the old mosques.
Somnath
A half day, usually paired with Gir or Diu.
Dwarka's ghats and the Dwarkadhish temple spire reflected in the Gomti at golden hour

Temple town and Blue Flag beach

Dwarka and Shivrajpur

Dwarka is built around the Dwarkadhish temple and sits at the far west of the Saurashtra circuit. It is a heritage stop for a leadership team or a sales incentive that wants a pilgrimage-town evening.

Shivrajpur beach, about 12 km from Dwarka, was awarded Blue Flag certification in October 2020 and is Gujarat's first Blue Flag beach. A beach day there gives a group something other than temples at the end of a long drive.

Plan Dwarka as a night, not a day trip: the road from Somnath takes most of a day.

Dwarka
A temple visit and an evening in the town.
Shivrajpur
A beach morning before the road back, with the day planned around the tide and the sun.
A bastion of Diu Fort with a small lighthouse, above the blue Arabian Sea

A separate union territory, not Gujarat

Diu

Diu is not part of Gujarat. It belongs to the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, formed on 26 January 2020, with Daman as its capital. Gujarat's prohibition rules do not apply there, so a gala dinner can have a bar at a licensed venue.

Diu pairs with Gir and Somnath on one circuit. It has a 17th-century Portuguese fort and St Paul's Church, built in 1610. Nagoa Beach, a semi-circular beach about 7 km from town, has water sports.

A night or two in Diu closes a Saurashtra circuit well.

Pairing
Gir, Somnath and Diu in one trip.
Format
A beach evening and a gala dinner after the safari and temple days.
The stone walls and bastion of Moti Daman Fort under a blue sky

A separate union territory, not Gujarat

Daman

Daman is also outside Gujarat, in the same union territory as Diu. It lies on the Gujarat coast about 170 km from Mumbai, which makes it the nearest beach offsite for a Mumbai group that wants to drive rather than fly.

Moti Daman fort and the older Nani Daman fort, with its Fort Jerome, are on either side of the Daman Ganga river. Devka Beach and Jampore Beach, about 4 km from Moti Daman, are the places for an evening on the sand.

Alcohol is legal in Daman, so the dinner can include a bar. See our Mumbai page for the Mumbai end of the drive.

When to go

November to February is the main season. Ahmedabad's highs stay near 30°C, the Rann Utsav is on, and the Gir park is open. The International Kite Festival falls in January. Saputara is greenest in the monsoon, July to September.

May is the hottest month, with highs of 41 to 42°C, and June is close behind. The monsoon runs from mid-June to September and the Gir park closes from 16 June to 15 October. Indoor conferences in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar run through the year, so the offsites set the calendar.

Planning an event in Gujarat: questions

Does ICE India have an office in Ahmedabad?

No. Our base is Mumbai. Each Gujarat event goes to the nearest ICE India team, which works with local suppliers we have vetted, and your contact stays the same through to the event day.

Where can we hold a conference of 1,000 or more in Gujarat?

At Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. Its main hall seats 5,500 theatre style with the viewing galleries, and the hotel next door has 318 rooms. Below about 600 delegates, a hotel ballroom in Ahmedabad gives a more intimate room. See our conference management page.

Can alcohol be served at a Gujarat event?

Only in licensed venues in GIFT City, under the relaxed rules. Gujarat is a dry state, so a gala dinner elsewhere in it is planned without a bar. Diu and Daman are a separate union territory and have no prohibition.

How do we get a group from Mumbai or Delhi to Gujarat?

Fly to Ahmedabad. Mumbai is about 1h 20m away and Delhi about 1h 45m. A Mumbai group can also take the Vande Bharat, in about 5h 30m. Surat and Vadodara have their own airports.

Which season suits a corporate offsite in Gujarat?

November to February. Kutch and its Rann Utsav, Gir and Kevadia are all at their best then, and Gir is shut from 16 June to 15 October. For palaces instead of desert, compare Rajasthan.

Can ICE India run a dealer meet in Ahmedabad?

Yes. A dealer meet needs a ballroom and rooms near an airport, and Ahmedabad has both. As a reference point, the published band for a one-night conference of 200 people is ₹35-70 lakh, including stay on twin sharing, F&B and AV, before GST. See dealer meets and MICE.
