Have a size in mind? Type it here. We keep the width and add depth if your platforms can't build it.

Most stages here use 6 × 4 ft platforms. Change this if your fabricator's differ.

LED wall

Headroom is the gap between the top of the wall and the ceiling. Most planners keep 2 ft; some squeeze it to 6 inches.

    How we worked it out
    • The stage is about 70% of the room's width, rounded to a size that whole platforms can build, 6 × 4 ft unless you change them. If its depth can't build close to that width, the stage goes up to 4 ft deeper. You can type your own size under More options.
    • Its depth is 2 ft for the LED wall plus what the act needs: up to 8 ft for speeches or a panel, 12 to 16 ft for a band or dancers. The deepest act sets it.
    • Its height follows the guest count: 1½ ft up to 150, 2 ft to 250, 2½ ft to 400, 3 ft above that.
    • The LED wall fills the stage width in whole panels. Its height is the widescreen height for that width, unless the ceiling, less the stage and 2 ft of headroom, caps it lower.
    • Chairs or tables start 5 ft from the stage and fill the rest of the floor, with 4 ft clear along the walls. Chairs go in full rows, so the plan can show a few more seats than guests.
    • A round table of 4, 5 or 6 ft seats 6, 8 or 10. In clusters, with the side nearest the stage left open, it seats 4, 5 or 6.

    A worked example

An event layout planner works from the room. Take an 80 × 50 ft ballroom with a 20 ft ceiling, 300 guests in theatre style and a panel discussion on stage. Build a 36 × 10 ft stage (15 platforms of 6 × 4 ft), 2½ ft high, with a 34½ × 15 ft LED wall across the back. 300 guests fit in theatre style, 40 seats spare.

    Stage height by guest count

How high to build the stage. Over 2 ft, add steps and side rails. These are defaults: you can set your own.
    GuestsStage height
    Up to 1501½ ft
    151 to 2502 ft
    251 to 4002½ ft
    Over 4003 ft

    Venue layout questions

How wide should the stage be?

About 70% of the width of the wall it stands against, rounded to what 6 × 4 ft platforms can build. In a 50 ft wide ballroom that is a 36 ft stage.

How deep does a stage need to be?

2 ft for the LED wall, plus up to 8 ft for speeches or a panel, or 12 to 16 ft for a band or dancers. If both happen, build for the band.

How high should the stage be?

1½ ft for up to 150 guests, 2 ft up to 250, 2½ ft up to 400 and 3 ft above that. Over 2 ft, add steps and side rails.

What if the ceiling is low?

The wall gets shorter and, if you keep the full stage width, wider than widescreen. Lower the stage, or keep the widescreen shape with side wings. Under about 10 ft, plan TV screens or a projector instead.
